Facebook unveils facial recognition photo-tagging

June 09 2011

Facebook users may no longer need to tag individual photos they upload to the social networking site. The newest feature to be tested by Facebook uses facial recognition to suggest photo tags.

The facial recognition feature was announced in December and is available to most Facebook users around the world. While proponents view the feature as another advancement in social networking technology, critics are apprehensive about potential privacy issues. Those concerned over the new feature can disable it by:

1. Click “Customize settings” in your account’s privacy settings.

2. Go to “Things others share”

3. Hit the “Edit Settings” button next to “Suggest photos of me to friends.”

4. Select “Disabled” from the drop-down menu.
