Tell us about your organization.

The Donovan Group LLC is a communications firm that focuses exclusively on education. We know education. Over the years, we have worked with school leaders to communicated about some of the most critical and urgent issue facing our schools, district and educational organizations.

What kinds of technology does your organization utilize?

We work with colleges, school districts and education organizations in Wisconsin and across the country in a wide range of communications services.  Some of the things we do include assisting with podcasting, online video, online briefings with reporters and the online distribution of press releases.  Technology and use of the web is really the backbone of our entire firm.

What technological challenges does your organization currently face?

When you go to certain parts of the state, there is not the technology infrastructure that there is in others.  Here in Milwaukee we have the bandwidth.  When we get into the northern part of the state, it’s really a challenge to move even a gigabyte of video through the web.  Broadband connections are strong in Milwaukee, Madison and Green Bay, but many parts of the state don’t have access.  I think that’s a huge disservice.

What, if any, technology policy issues are of importance to your organization?

As an organization that speaks on behalf of schools and school districts, we believe technology is vital to a quality education. Schools need to be able to prepare students to succeed in 21st century industries.

How does your organization see the future of technology in Wisconsin?

It’s true that in my field or in any other, we’re competing not just with other Wisconsin firms, but with people across the nation and even around the world.  Wisconsin needs access to the best technology and best technology professionals in order to stay competitive.

Why did you choose to partner with Wired Wisconsin?

As an organization that depends on high-speed internet for ourselves and for our clients, we support Wired Wisconsin’s efforts to expand broadband access throughout the state.  Also, we believe Wisconsin should be a state that welcomes high-tech industry, and we support the organization’s work in that area as well.
