Tell us about your organization.

The Midwest Renewable Energy Association (MREA) is a non-profit 501(C)3 tax exempt organization. We were founded in 1990, with a mission to promote renewable energy around the Midwest. The Midwest Renewable Energy Association promotes renewable energy, energy efficiency, and sustainable living through education and demonstration.

What kinds of technology does your organization utilize?

As a demonstration and education facility for renewable energy and sustainable living, we utilize on site photovoltaic arrays, wind turbines, and solar thermal – all of which produce enough electricity and hot water to completely offset our office’s monthly needs.

What technological challenges does your organization currently face?

As a 20-year-old non-profit, we are quickly transitioning to an up-to-date information system and a progressive online presence to allow our organization to continue to grow and maintain our high standards as renewables increasingly become more mainstream. As such, our challenge of balancing growth with up-to-date technology is a common one shared by many organizations that are successful in their mission statement.

What, if any, technology policy issues are of importance to your organization? (green technology, broadband deployment, privacy, etc.)

Though we do not promote to or advise our members or any other body, governmental or otherwise, on policy, the principle of sustainable development and “green technology” are central to our mission statement.

How does your organization see the future of technology in Wisconsin?

This is an exciting time for green technology and renewable energy in Wisconsin, which can be witnessed by the number of grants and other moneys being made available to employers and teaching institutions that are working towards training a workforce specializing in the green technologies and the expanding green jobs market of the 21^st century.

Why did you decide to partner with Wired Wisconsin?

We made the decision to partner with Wired Wisconsin due to a shared mission to educate consumers and businesses about renewable energy and green technology issues.
