Partner Profiles: New North, Inc.

Tell us about your organization.

New North, Inc. is a consortium of business, economic development, chambers of commerce, workforce development, civic, non-profit, and education leaders in 18 counties of Northeast Wisconsin who are working to be recognized as competitive for job growth while maintaining our superior quality of life.

What kinds of technology does your organization utilize?

New North represents many different industries that depend on various technologies—maybe its wind energy created through the many wind farms in the region or the latest manufacturing equipment. New North strives to be a place of innovation and economic development through partnerships with more than 13 post-secondary higher-education institutions.

What technological challenges does your organization currently face?

Because we represent such a large geographic area, there are unfortunately many businesses and organizations that do not have access to broadband and wireless technologies—it is a relatively small number, but in today’s global marketplace everyone needs to be connected.

What, if any, technology policy issues are of importance to your organization?

New North would like to see policies that encourage high-tech job growth as well as those that foster competition between broadband and wireless service providers so access is available throughout our region.

Why did you decide to partner with Wired Wisconsin?

Wired Wisconsin is different from many other coalitions in that it works hard to give people from all over Wisconsin a place at the technology issue discussion, because they realize just as New North does that it is only with collaboration that great things happen.
